Imbalance of power makes for grim future- Farm Diary by Gwyn Jones

A cold but very pleasant weekend, ideal for walking the farm, except I had to measure the length of each and every ditch on the farm in order to double check my maps and calculations need to be kept alongside records of muck and slurry and bagged fertilisers, showing all application rates, totals for every field and the farm as a whole.

Muck and slurry must not be soread within ten metres of any ditch, hence the need to measure the length of all ditches and the total area not available for spreading worked out and deducted from the total acreage of the farm. I won't bore you with the collur coding of the maps and the detailed muck plan and showing how much total muck and slurry is produced on the farm. Suffice it to say that if such legislation is tightened, many farmers will give up the struggle.
