Mrs Down's Diary

After a five mile cruise around the lanes surrounding the farm, Oliver, my grandson, has finally dropped off to sleep and allowed his mamma to get on with some jobs.

I thought I had succeeded after lunch when he dozed off with his pappa to the strains of the lunchtime news, but just lifting Oliver to take him up the stairs to bed rocketed him back into awareness and another two hours of frenzied activity.

His mum and dad, Bryony and Chris, are taking a well-earned holiday in Italy away from their offspring. My daughter Bryony is in the school which encourages babies to sleep in with their mums and dads. "After all, it's n ature's way, look at animals."
