Fiona Cannings. from Mallydams, said: “The Open Day is our main on-site fundraising event of the year.

“This year’s theme is pets. Are you a pet owner or are thinking of becoming one? Then come along and learn about the various aspects of responsible pet ownership, pet safety, animal welfare, pet origins and the illegal pet trade.

“You can also enjoy trails, stalls and pet-themed activities throughout the day and there will be games, wildlife centre tours, a barbecue and refreshments area and raffle draw.

Entry is £2.50 for adults, £1.50 for children/OAPs and£7 for family ticket (two adults and two children), under twos free.

There is free car parking and a free minibus service will be running from 10.30am – 4.30pm in Hastings starting at the Bridge Community Centre with pick up/drop off points opposite Co-Op in Ore and the car park at Hastings Country Park.

Mallydams is a well established wildlife rehabilitation and education centre and woodland nature reserve.

It takes in and cares for many injured and orphaned animals and birds each year and even has facilities for looking after seals.

The site was given to the RSPCA in 1961 by Horace Quick, a local artist and wildlife enthusiast.

Since its doors opened more than 50 years ago, over 35,000 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals have been treated at the centre.

Facilities include a veterinary examination room and x-ray machine; orphan rearing and treatment areas; specialised oiled bird cleaning facilities; pool aviaries for seabirds and water birds and long-term mammal pens with indoor and outdoor areas.
