Fairtrade fashion at Bexhill College

Bexhill College hosted a Fashion Show to celebrate both Fairtrade clothing and the art textiles students' own creations.

Bexhill is a Fairtrade town, and due to the success of a fashion show in Bexhill last May the Fairtrade committee were thrilled to promote clothing lines such as Gossypium, Nomads and Love That Stuff at this event.

The evening was full of energy as many students and models strutted down the catwalk in both original and fairtrade pieces.

The event was a great success, and local MP Gregory Barker was present at the show clearly supporting the work that Fairtrade do in order to gain equal rights for workers, in this circumstance, the cotton industry.

He highlighted this by quoting Mahatma Gandhi: "You must be the change you want to see in the world."

All the students involved showed great spirit and originality in the work that was shown. Kele Okere, an art textiles student modelling one of her own garments, commented: "Everyone's really excited about showing their pieces, this is our very first fashion show and hopefully won't be out last".
