FIRMS BACK HOBBY HORSE GRAND NATIONAL

LOCAL FIRMS have pledged support for a hobby horse Grand National aimed at raising money so hard-worked donkeys and horses in the world's poorest countries can get the veterinary care they need.

On Sunday, July 9, local youngsters are invited to take part in the fun event at Primrose Farm, Arlington, in aid of the Brooke Hospital for Animals.

They will be able to race round a course of small jumps on hobby horses, and take part in various games, and all the money raised during the afternoon will go to the charity.

To date local businesses have backed the event to the tune of more than 650 by sponsoring the fences and other attractions.

They include Mayo & Perkins, Cobb PR, Bruford's, Eastbourne Mercedes-Benz, Ogilvie Booth Coles, Chalvington Barns, Manor Creative, Ashburnham Associates, Michael O'Callaghan Development & Project Management, Plummer Parsons, Experience Holidays, Hailsham Feeds and the Equine Dental Practice.

Organiser Jeannine Williamson said: 'This really has helped the event get off to a great start.

'In keeping with the racing theme we have also got a draw with a day out at Fontwell races as first prize and Jevington race horse trainer Mark Flower is lending us some of his colourful jockey silks to put on show.'

Gates open at 1.30pm and the first race gets underway at 2pm.

Races will be held for different age groups with a maximum of six in each race and there will also be adults' races.

Hobby horses for the races and gymkhana events will be available to hire on the day or children are welcome to bring their own.
