There was a celebratory atmosphere under the big top as Roger Wilcock and his ensemble delivered a varied selection of evocative and powerful music with the highly accomplished Medway Band of brass and percussionists performing stirring pieces such as The Dambusters March and 1812 Overture.

The 150 strong Hastings BIG Choir were in fine voice as the enthusiastic crowd joined in waving Union Jack flags.

A diverse programme of music ranged from Classical favourites to James Bond themes and pop hits.

This year the BIG Choir’s chosen charity, in addition to those already supported by Hastings and St Leonards Round Table, is Hastings and St Leonards Dementia Action Alliance, and there will be further fund-raising concerts at St Thomas of Canterbury Church and Battle Emmanuel Centre during July.

The bar did a good trade in glasses and pitchers of Pimms and Prosecco while beer lovers had over 100 real ales to choose from, a large proportion of which were brewed in Sussex.

Roger Wilcock commented: “This is the seventh year of Prom Night and the choir worked hard to provide a varied and lively programme.”
