Friends group donates £70,000of vital equipment to Conquest

The Friends of Conquest Hospital have donated £70,000 worth of new orthopaedic surgical equipment.

Consultant surgeons Adrian Butler-Manual and Hemant Thakral, along with theatre nurses were on hand to thank representatives from the Friends for their donation at a recent presentation.

They demonstrated the versatility of state-of-the-art orthopaedic power drills and new equipment for use in knee revision surgery.

In all, the Friends donated three power drills with all the orthopaedic attachments for drilling and cutting along with a tibial component extractor for use in knee revision surgery. Bill Hamilton, chairman of the Friends, said: “We are pleased to be able to purchase this equipment for the surgeons and nurses to use during orthopaedic surgery. We are delighted the money we received from generous local donations, bequests and the hard work of our members is benefiting local patients.”

Mr Butler-Manual said: “We would like to thank the friends for their generosity. The new power drills are lighter and easier to use than our previous equipment.”
