Fun day and dog show helps animal charities

The annual AlphaPet Charity Animal Fun Day and Dog Show was held at Queen’s Field on Sunday, August 2.

Administration assistant Andrea Hogg said: “It was a fantastic success and this year, it didn’t rain!

“We raised £2,760, the most we have raised so far in the six years we have been hosting the show.”

The money was split between Canine Partners, which provides specially-trained dogs to assist disabled people, and Many Tears Animal Rescue, a dog rescue and re-homing organisation which is based in South Wales but has dogs in foster homes throughout the UK.

Director Paul Irvine-Smith and lead medical nurse Charlie Sampson presented cheques to representatives from the charities at the surgery on Wednesday.

Andrea added: “Aside from the dog show, we had all-day refreshments, charity stalls, pet’s corner, lots of competitions, dog activities, fun and games, kid’s corner and a bouncy castle.

“We also had agility and fly ball demos from Sussex County Dog Training. A huge success and lots of fun.”

The AlphaPet team, based in The Precinct, West Meads, was also on hand at the fun day to answer questions from visitors and to promote its Pet Health Club, talking about the importance of microchipping and what is needed for a pet to become a blood donor.

Each year, the surgery chooses two different worthy charities to benefit from the day’s fundraising.
