Marcia Linden has organised a garden party to raise money for Animals Helped Abroad.

This will be at her home at 32 Martyns Way as Marcia hopes "to help innocent Serbian animals which are being brutalised and tortured."

Entrance to the garden party from 2pm will cost 2.50 and includes a summer buffet.

Apart from the food and surroundings, the event's attractions include live entertainment, professional neck and shoulder massage, morris dancing, children's lucky dip, and face painting.

Marcia said she became became aware of "atrocities" in Serbia following a radio programme last year in which Carla Lane being interviewed.

She commented: "I was then able to make contact with two ladies who devote all their time to rescuing, repairing and rehoming the unfortunate animals - Jelena in Nis and Slavica in Subotica.

"I was due to visit last December, but fell over my own suitcase and twisted my ankle. I have had a few letters printed in various newspapers '“ London and other places '“ which have brought in a little money; did a few table sales; otherwise I pay for everything.

"The Cats Whiskers in Sackville Rd very kindly sold '“ at reduced price - outdated stock of dog coats and bowls which I posted.

"Also an animal supply shop in Brighton did the same.

"I have written to many suppliers of food, bedding, worming, tick & flea products, etc to see if they can help, but not a lot of joy, so I purchase the cheapest over-the-counter products from Pets At Home in Glyne Gap and when I can, send money."
