George is 106

At 106 he must be Bexhill's oldest man, but George Hill still enjoys an outing with friends.

The Orchard House resident marked his birthday on April 1 with a trip to the seafront.

Felicia Clark, owner of the rest home in St John's Road, took him out with a small group which included his daughter Elsie Hamilton who lives in Hastings.

Felicia said: "George still loves to go out - I even take him to the supermarket with me and he pushes the trolley around. He is very good.

"He loves to go out with me and he always says if I am going out to take him with me - so I do."

She also organised a party for him with cake so that friends, residents and staff could help celebrate, and booked a musican to play specially for George's birthday. George moved to Orchard House in 2001, before which he lived in Cooden. For most of his life he ran a coffee shop but his great passions were music and dancing - until recently he was a keen dancer who attended regular events including the Wednesday afternoon tea dance at St Mary Magdalene's church hall.
