Governor defends Ford Prison's abscond record

Governor Fiona Radford has defended the record of Ford Prison following criticism from Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert.

She told the West Sussex Gazette that the number of prisoners absconding had fallen steadily over the past four nyears and denied Mr Herbert's claim that a blackboard in the prison's security office recorded 13 absconds in the first three weeks of March alone.

She told the Gazette she wanted to put the record straight after Mr Herbert's comments on last month's visit.
