Grot spots to be cleaned up

HEATHFIELD is to get a spring clean after a pensioner appealed for something to be done about the sorry state of Station Road.

John Salmon, of Longview, has lived in the town for more than 20 years. He regularly walks along the road during the evenings and has become increasingly worried about the decline in standards.

He said: 'The amount of rubbish lying around is a disgrace.'

He pinpointed the trading estate off Station Road and the areas behind Rix and Kay solicitors and the health centre as particular grot spots, with car parts, household rubbish, broken glass and graffiti among the problems.

A Wealden council spokesman said: 'We are aware of the situation and hope to have it sorted out by the end of this week.

'We will be sending people out to deal with the rubbish and glass, but graffiti behind private premises is the responsibility of the owner, not the council.

'I am pleased this matter has been brought to our attention and hopefully it can be quickly solved.'
