Highway gang fundraise for Stroke Association

While Phil McCorry was rowing across the Indian Ocean his work colleagues were helping Row4Charity by doing some fundraising of their own.

Phil works at the eastern area office of ESCC Highways department and this week his co-workers presented a cheque for 340 to The Stroke Association, the charity chosen by Phil and the rest of the Bexhill Trust Challenger crew.

The money was collected by holding regular Dress Down Fridays, with Clare Wake and Frances Wilson administering proceedings over the past 12 months to arrive at the total - this was handed over to Stephanie Edwards from the Stroke Association communication and support group at Bexhill Hospital by Paul Lown of the East Area Office.

The group had invited Phil back to tell them about the Indian Ocean Challenge after he visited them at the very beginning of the fundraising campaign.

The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages.

It funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Rehabilitation and Support Services. These include Communication Support, Family and Carer Support, information services and welfare grants. The Stroke Association also campaigns, educates and informs to increase knowledge of stroke at all levels of society, and acts as a voice for anyone affected by this condition.
