WEST GALLERT CONCERT: for February is Mike Reinstein, a singer/ songwriter and guitarist. The date is Saturday 18 February and the concert starts at 6pm and finishes at 7.30pm. There is a break halfway for a drink and a chat. WOLSTONBURY WI:: monthly meeting on Tuesday 21 February has the speaker Jamie Goldrick on Illicit Drug Prevention – awareness in the community. At the Club Suite in the Village Centre at 7.45pm, all welcome. Enquiries phone 01273 834421.

HURST FESTIVAL one of our two big annual events in the village is recruiting. The current Chair is standing down and they are looking for a replacement, for the 2018 Festival. The new person it is hoped will be in place by spring so that they can be eased into the job by shadowing the present chair this year. Our festival has been running since 2005, and has grown into a two-week celebration of arts and local culture with many varied events on offer. The aim is to bring the community together and encourage people to try new things. It is run by a friendly and dynamic group of volunteers, and the Chair is responsible for determining the structure and content of the programme, and the organisation of the logistics. A part time administrator helps. Do you live in or near Hurst, have a passion for the arts and local culture, and could bring some new ideas for the festival? Used to committees? Also you would need to be available form January to October on a voluntary basis and this year to shadow from March or April onwards. HURSTPIERPOINT HISTORICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY: meets on Friday 24 February at the Guide Hall off Trinity Road car park. The speaker is Peter Lovett on The Influence of Invasions on the English Language. You may never have given it much thought but about two thirds of words in our language come from French and Latin, via out last invasions by copying or changing them to suit. But previous invaders also left their mark, and you may be amazed at what they brought and left with us. At 8pm, all welcome, cost to non members is just £3.

VILLAGE CINEMA: screens on Friday 24 February Chevallier (18). A Greek film which pokes fun at male manners and snobbery. Six affluent middle-class men are on board an expensive yacht for a fishing holiday. Boredom sets in and they decide to compete against each other to decide who is the best. They score each other in increasingly silly aspirations. A funny satire. The Saturday family film on 25 February is The Secret Life of Pets (U) an amusing animation about what our pets do when we are not at home. Tickets from the website or Mishon Mackay.
