I married my lodger

Nicky Ward advertised in the Bognor Regis Observer for a lodger and ended up with a husband.

She and Marcus Cogger were married on Saturday, August 4,at St Mary's Church in Felpham just over two years after the advert which brought them together.

It was on Sunday, July 17, 2005, that the pair met when Marcus arrived at Nicky's front door to look around her end of terrace house in Aldwick.

She had advertised in the previous Thursday's Observer with a room to let. The advert caught the attention of Marcus who was living with his mum in Middleton.

'Buying that paper was the best 45p I have ever spent,' a delighted Marcus told guests at his wedding reception.

He moved in to the Wakefield Way property on August 1 and the pair became attracted to each other.

They got together after a month following a few dinner dates and became engaged six months later.

Six Villages Sports Centre manager Marcus (30) said: 'The whole story is surreal. We just clicked with each other.

'It's one of those things that was meant to be. It's fate.'

Nicky (33) managed to obtain an original copy of her advertisement and included it in one of her wedding presents to Marcus.

Some 80 guests attended their wedding.

The reception for 100 people was held in a marquee at Oakwood School in Funtington where Nicky is the headteacher's PA.

The couple are returning today from a three-day break at Champney's Health Spa in Forest Mere, Hampshire, before they enjoy a delayed honeymoon in Barbados in October.
