CHURCH NEWS: The 10.30am service on Sunday morning will be Morning Prayer celebrating Christ the King and the next before Advent. The lessons for the day include the words ‘Stir up the wills of thy faithful people’, so it has become known as stir up Sunday indicating that we should be mindful of making our cakes and puddings for Christmas, giving them time to mature. The service will be led by George Ford. The Travelling Crib will be setting off round the village on Advent Sunday. We commemorate the hymn writer Isaac Watts on 25th, and Eleanor of Castile on 28th. She was the consort of King Edward 1 who died in 1290, near Lincoln. Edward accompanied her body back to London and at the twelve places where they rested overnight he had a stone cross erected in her memory. The places were Lincoln, Grantham, Stamford, Geddington, Hardingstone, Stony Stratford, Woburn, Dunstable, St. Albans, Waltham, Westcheap and Charing (Cross.)

CHURCH TOUR: On Wednesday, there will be a tour of Icklesham Church in conjunction with the University of the 3rd Age. This will be led by Laurie Bowman, starting at 2pm. All are welcome. It is free although a donation to the church would be appreciated. Please note that the start time is now 2pm.

POPPY APPEAL: The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The places which hold collecting boxes are the Robin Hood, Three Oaks Pub, Queen’s Head, Icklesham Stores, Jades, the Summer Fete, Icklesham School, Five Villages House, Icklesham Church, Lent Lunch and the President’s Box have together raised £ 905. The house to house collection raised a further £340. So the total raised this year is £1,245. Very many thanks to collectors and contributors.

WEATHER: It is www still - wet, warm and windy. The underlying clay is holding the water and making gardens very wet. My autumn clearing is not yet complete, is yours? Got the grass cut last week though, so that’s it. I suppose we are saving on heating bills.

VILLAGE STORES: It is lovely to have the shop open again. All the work is not completed yet, partly due to the weather and partly because workmen did not turn up. All has been deep cleaned and the floor resurfaced. Remember - use it or lose it.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this coming Sunday will be played by Bagge and Armer, playing acoustic blues from 4pm to 6pm.

THE ROYAL OAK, PETT: Simon Shaw and Logan Wilson will be playing live on November 26. Quiz nights are on December 2, 16 and 30. There will be an Irish session on December 9. On New Year’s Eve there will be a Fancy Dress Party with Wasted rock band.
