GREETINGS: My sincere apologies for the lack of a column last week. I was summoned to the Conquest Hospital two weeks ahead of schedule for a heart procedure. Didn’t know about it until 8.20am on Monday morning! No time to get in a panic !! All has apparently gone well. I must thank Cindy for putting the Flower Festival into the Winchelsea column. And the lack of Voice did not reduce the number of visitors.

CHURCH SERVICE: The service at 10.30 am will be Parish Eucharist for the 6th Sunday after Trinity.

FLOWER FESTIVAL: The Church looked really stunning with all the glorious flower arrangements arranged for our delight. Every possible flower of every possible colour seemed to be there, so cleverly arranged. It really was most beautiful. The Art Exhibition also showed what a wealth of talent there is locally. There seemed to be lots of visitors, and many of them took the opportunity to have lunch and/ tea in the Memorial Hall. All supplied by the ladies from the church. I can say from personal experience that lunch was delicious, and the scone, jam and cream tea was positively decadent!

BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION: If you are reading this early on Friday morning, you will have time to go to a special event at our Village Store. By kind permission of Karen and Dexter, there will be finger nail painting, a raffle, cold drinks and balloons all to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. It is open from 10am to 4 pm so do try to drop in.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this coming Sunday will be played by Joe Rytlewski playing Blues Rock. There will be a Quiz Night on Wednesday at 8.30 pm in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice.

ROBIN HOOD INN: On Saturday 18th Julyin the Memorial Hall there will be a Race Night.. Doors open at 7pm, racing begins at 7.30 pm.The very cheap ticket is £5 perperson and includes a basket meal. Children under 14 years enter and eat free so that has to be a bargain. There will also be a licensed bar to wash down the food, and a raffle will be held. Further details are on the RHBS facebook page and tickets can be purchased until 15th at the Robin Hood Pub and the Village Stores.

WEATHER: Hope you survived the heat and humidity last week. Bright blue sky today with pretty little white clouds sailing serenely over it. The breeze is welcome, but we will still have to get the watering cans out again, even though it rained on Sunday. Most of my new turf has survived thanks to help from neighbours while I was out of action. I understand that the sea is warm enough for swimming in and it is really quite warm.

SCHOOL NEWS: The Summer Fayre was a huge success, with many families enjoying a super day out. Thanks are offered to Jane Gillard and her team for organising such a brilliant event. The winner of the Friends LOGO competition was Ruby-Jude Hall The King and Queen of the Forest were Connor Leonard and Grace Gillard. The Enchanted Forest Competition was won by Finley Leonard. Billy Cook Beat the Goalie. All the children have been able to move on to their new classes during the week. The class members will be choosing their Class Names for the next year, with the theme of Outstanding British Wildlife. The Year 5 children have had a fantastic time at the PGL holiday base. The awards this week go to the Tag Rugby Team in Year 6, who won the Head Teacher’s award.

The class awards went to Annie, Millie, Solomon and Hannah. There will be KS2 performance at 2 pm and 6 pm at school, and an Open Afternoon and French Cafe on 17th July.

ORGAN CONCERTS: Anyone interested in organ music might enjoy the series of concerts in All Saints Church, Hastings, which begins on Monday 13th July at 7.30 pm. Then there is a concert every week until August Bank Holiday Monday. Tickets are £8, or a season ticket is £50. Refreshments available during the interval. The first concert will be played by Martin Setchell from Christ Church , New Zealand.
