Insurance brokers welcome Tobias

TOBIAS van der Meer has just been appointed as the new managing director of Hastings Retail at Bexhill and Newmarket based brokers Hastings Direct.

He joins the company on Wednesday, June 1.

Hastings Retail comprises the broking operations trading under the brands of Hastings Direct, Insure, Renew, Likewise and Hastings Partnerships.

Tobias has an extensive background in direct financial services. He was previously a managing director at moneysupermarket.com, the UK’s largest price comparison site, where he was responsible for the money and broker lead businesses and all front and back office operations.

Prior to moneysupermarket.com, Tobias spent nearly a decade in direct banking including senior positions with egg™- the internet bank, Citigroup and the Anglo Irish Bank.

Edward Fitzmaurice, Hastings Direct’s chief executive, said: “Tobias has deep insight into the needs of customers for financial service products and was instrumental in profitably growing the customer bases at moneysupermarket.com, egg and Citibank.

“We are looking to capitalise on his experience as we are currently enjoying tremendous growth and Tobias will be key in getting our business ready for a possible public flotation next year.”
