Katie-Jo carries on family tradition in Bognor Regis

A new flower seller in Bognor Regis town centre has become the third generation of her family to enter the business of blooms.

Katie-Jo Fry is restoring a familiar name to the High Street with her new pitch. She began on Saturday with buckets of flowers and trays of plants at its junction with London Road precinct.

Her street trader's licence from Arun District Council enables her to trade there from Tuesdays to Saturdays.

The licence lasts for six months after which Katie-Jo (24), who lives a short walk from central Bognor, can seek a renewal.

Her pitch is just a short distance from the greengrocer and floral shop which her father, Frank Fry, ran for more than 20 years next to the main post office.

The shop shut some six years ago. His father, Harry Hannington, who passed away two months ago, was a flower seller in Shepherd's Bush in London for many years.

Katie-Jo said: "It's very important to me to carry on the family tradition. Selling is in my blood and I want to make a success of it. My father is my inspiration. He is the brains behind my operation. He is disabled and unable to work but I will have all his experience to call upon."

She has also pledged to sell local produce where possible. Her first items on sale included flowers from Barnham and plants from Mundham.
