Keeping a finger on town's pulse

VOLUNTEERS held a successful day offering shoppers and passers-by free blood pressure checks and pulse readings.

Courtesy of Barraclough and Stiles, the Western Road opticians, checks were performed in bright, warm surroundings, contrasting with wintry conditions outside on Saturday.

The checks were organised and run by the Rotary Club of Senlac and St John Ambulance.

Each person who came along was given advice on whether their readings were normal or not. Any abnormal readings triggered a recommendation for the person to see their doctor to identify the reason for the high readings.

A Rotary spokesman said: “The Stroke Association is keen for the public to take preventative measures in order to minimise the risk of both strokes and heart attacks, and the Rotary Club of Senlac was pleased to be able to support this in a practical and positive way.”
