Legion success

A total of Â£1,500 was raised for the Royal British Legion at a civic reception hosted by the chairman of Arun District Council.

About 250 people attended the event in the grand hall at the Hilton Avisford Park.

Guests included councillors, civic dignitaries and representatives from the Royal British Legion, which is Cllr Ashvin Patel's chosen charity during his year in office.

Cllrs Mark Butler and Stephen Haymes acted as comperes for the event, during which guests enjoyed afternoon tea while listening to the Edwin James Festival Choir.

This was followed by a display of classical Indian dancing by Ruchi Patel.

A two-night stay at the Hilton Hotel Cobham was won in the raffle by choir member Doreen Redington.
