Little Common pupil's Edwardian beach event

IT WAS a dull, chilly day at the beach, and the red flag was flying, so the setting was, in effect, perfect for year two pupils from Little Common School, dressed in Edwardian finery, to enjoy a traditional day at the sea-side.

Year two teacher Denise Kelvin said the event was a culmination of what the pupils had recently been taught in school, she said: "They have been learning all about what life was like a hundred years ago, what clothes were worn, what was eaten etc. Their Mum's have helped make their costumes and they all look wonderful."

Taking in the sea air was pupil, Genevieve Bailey who said she preferred her Edwardian costume to her modern day clothes saying: "I think the clothes are quite nice and I would like to wear them all the time. It's been a nice day but a bit windy."

After a picnic lunch, which included cheese sandwiches and jam tarts, the pupils enjoyed a traditional punch and judy show.
