Littlehampton "chemical leak" fears unfounded

A SUSPECTED chemical leak saw a Littlehampton street cordoned of today (Tuesday, September 7).

Emergency services were called to Lundy Close at about 2pm, when a workman on a building site exhibited symptoms, reportedly including vomiting blood and swollen arms, that appeared to be caused by a hazardous substance.

He was treated at Worthing Hospital, along with at least three members of the public and a paramedic, who were taken as a precaution.

A Sussex police spokesman said: "Following assessment, the symptoms were found to be due to an underlying issue and not related to the work site. There was no risk to the public and the site has been deemed safe.

"Roads in the surrounding area were closed temporarily by police and reopened shortly after 4pm."
