Man arrested after Gucci handbag stolen in Horsham

A 28-year-old man has been arrested after a handbag was stolen from a van in Horsham.

The man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle after a Gucci handbag was stolen at 5.45pm from a white Volkswagen van parked in Carfax on Thursday (July 2).

He has been questioned and released on bail until Thursday July 30.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Police said the owners of the bag were packing away their market stall nearby when a suspect reached into the van through an open window and took the handbag.

They added the suspect ran off past the old Waitrose supermarket store towards the Royal and Sun Alliance building.

The bag, a light brown Gucci handbag with dark brown handles, was later recovered.

PC Paul Smith said: “Please get in contact if you have any information which could help with our investigation. We would particularly like to speak to the member of the public who called us to report the incident.

“This was an opportunist theft, please do not leave valuables in your vehicle and keep them secured at all times.”
