Man dies in crash

A 68-year-old man died after a skip lorry collided head-on with his car on the road between Buxted and Hadlow Down on Saturday morning.

A 68-year-old man died after a skip lorry collided head-on with his car on the road between Buxted and Hadlow Down on Saturday morning.

Mr Geoffrey Conway was driving a VW Jetta towards Buxted with his wife as a passenger when, according to police, the lorry crossed the carriageway into his path. A Peugeot 205 travelling behind Mr Conway was also involved in the accident.

Mr Conway, from Almond Avenue, Kiddington, Oxford, was airlifted to Eastbourne hospital by helicopter while his wife, who was seriously injured with broken bones, was taken there by ambulance.

Two women in the Peugeot, who were not named by police - a 41-year-old mother from Heathfield and her 19-year-old daughter - were also taken to hospital. Police say the daughter had a 'nasty cut on the head and a sprained ankle while her mother had a broken knee.
