Memorial cycle ride raises £2,800 for hospice

THE untimely death of former Bexhill Athletic Club stalwart Tony Dadd in February has had a heartwarming sequel thanks to a sponsored cycle ride held in his memory last month.

The 14 participants, including his son, Matt, raised £2,800 for St Michael’s Hospice, St Leonards.

They rode from Bexhill Athletics Club to East Dean, near Beachy Head, and back on April 9, covering 36 miles.

Matt said: “Dad passed away at the hospice and friends and family wanted to do something in his memory and to offer some sort of support to the hospice for its care and compassion.

“The hospice relies on public donations to keep going, and with costs of some £3.2 million this year it constantly needs help. The money raised will help other families to have that special time we had with Dad just before he died, which of course is priceless.

“We hope St Michael’s will continue to provide a wealth of support and comfort in extremely difficult times which unfortunately we all must face in one way or another.”

Matt added: “Our family would like to thank everyone for all the messages and words of support we have received in the last few months. And we would also like to say a special thank you to Bexhill Athletic Club, Halfords, Tesco, the Viking Fish Bar, L&G Wholesale Electric, Hamptons Menswear and IP Performance (Bristol) Commercial for their help with the sponsored ride.”
