MEND health project makes comeback

Families who want to be fitter, healthier and happier can take part in a new course in Bognor Regis.

The latest series of the highly successful MEND project is starting in the town this month.

MEND stands for Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it! It offers overweight children aged seven to 13 years old and their families the chance to increase their physical activity and improve their nutrition awareness.

The free and fun course runs on Wednesdays and Fridays in Bognor Regis.

Cllr Robin Brown, Arun's cabinet member for housing and community care, said: "MEND has been very successful in helping many children and their families make changes that will improve their overall health.

"This programme is not about short-term fixes. It is about giving children the tools that will help them make positive decisions about their health as they grow older."

MEND was launched in Arun last year and is organised by Arun District Council in partnership with Inspire Leisure and West Sussex Primary Care Trust to help tackle childhood health issues.

The courses aim to help change unhealthy habits through a range of fun and educational activities that help the children understand the importance of eating well and keeping fit.

They receive practical education in nutrition, eating a balanced diet, and learning how to build physical activity and exercise into their daily routine.

So far, 70 young people aged seven to 13 have taken part in the programme in Bognor and Littlehampton with their families.

All have praised the difference it has made to their lives. More information from the MEND team on 01903 708437.
