Music is not dead in Bexhill as fans queue up for National Record Day

The event was launched in the UK in 2008.

The reason behind this annual celebration is to promote vinyl and support independent record shops and for artists be able to promote themselves via special events and ultimately release special limited edition vinyl of their material, quite often for just one day.

It is also an opportunity for music fans to come away with something unique from the day and to enjoy the record shop experience.

Local music fan Nick Linazasoro went along on the day and said: “Hannah Peel’s special music box performance was due to start at.

The shop was already rammed full with music fans when I arrived at 11.30am and earlier on in the morning many more had been patiently queueing outside and along Devonshire Road.

Some enthusiasts had parked themselves there for hours in order to grab that rare limited edition vinyl release, be it by The Buzzcocks or David Bowie.

The Music’s Not Dead record shop was a natural choice for Hannah Peel’s Music Box Tour as the shop had previously organised the successful Hannah Peel gig last year at the De La Warr Pavilion.

“I asked Hannah how exactly did the tour idea come about.

“She told me that her mad idea was conceived on the back of a motorbike to drive around eight independent south coast record shops and that it was to celebrate having a limited edition gold vinyl release of her ‘Rebox2” mini-album out especially for Record Store Day.

!She added that her music box is also the only instrument that she has that’s very easy to carry around and set up when compared to her synths and piano.

“Hannah positioned herself in one of the two shop window bays and performed two charming songs for the waiting crowd; ‘Tainted Love’ and ‘Palace’.

“I later learned that she make it to all eight venues in the same day.”

National Record Day is a global event which brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores across the world.

A number of records are pressed specifically for Record Store Day, and are only distributed to shops participating in the event.

Music’s Not Dead holds regular in-store performance sessions to help promote artists and has teamed up with the De la Warr Pavilion to put on a number of live shows and events.
