The man, who was found with severe head injuries, was described as white, aged between 35 and 50, about 16 stone, with black hair going slightly grey.

He was wearing a yellow polo shirt, a black Berghaus sleeveless fleece, dark-blue Yves St Laurent jacket, blue jeans and tan-coloured ankle boots.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Tuesday, January 19, at St Richard's Hospital that did not discover any additional wounds other than head injuries.

Police believe these were sustained by a fall from the fire escape.

Detective Inspector Jim Mcknight of Bognor Police said experts were now working on a photofit image of the man to urgently trace his identity.

He said: "There is no indication a third party was involved, but we are keeping an open mind.

"We have other information the body was not there at 5.20am, so it had to have happened between then and around 6.15am on Monday."

Anyone who can help should contact police on 0845 6070 999 quoting Operation Westridge.
