Netherfield Church – Our service this Sunday, April 29 will be a Holy Communion service dedicated to the Christian Aid charity plus a blessing for two of our parishioners who are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in April. Please remember, Mountfield church will be closed for building works over the next few weeks and all services will be at Netherfield until further notice. All services are at 10 am, please check here each week or on notice boards at the churches for our services.

Last week’s service included the baptism of Ziva Deering. The service was conducted by the Revd. John Hawkins and all went off very well, other than Ziva’s obvious dislike of water! It was a delight to see so many in our church and we were pleased to have the family join us for this special occasion.

As well as this service, Netherfield Church has had a busy week. On Thursday the White Hart hosted a Quiz Night on our behalf and it was really well supported. Ten teams took part and although starting in a good light-hearted atmosphere, it soon became competitive. Don’t they always! A brilliant evening that everyone enjoyed, it was a close result and congratulations to Richard and his team for winning. The enthusiasm has resulted in the next one already being arranged for May 24 so make a note now and come and join us. Primarily a fun evening for us all and it also raised £150 towards the running costs of our church. Thank you Sean for your hospitality and hard work in putting it on and to everyone who came and supported it.

Hard on the heels of this success came the annual Spring Fair on the Saturday at the church from 10 am until noon. It started quite slowly, however the church was soon full and really busy. Before the end the produce and cakes were sold out, most of the plants had gone and the other stalls were reporting unusually high activity. The mousehole game had become very competitive and the two hours just flew by. The weather had been kind and showers held off until clearing up so it didn’t affect the turn out. People had worked really hard to put this on and it paid off as the morning was exactly what we wanted with the church buzzing, people chatting and enjoying their refreshments and the company. This is what is so nice, a friendly, welcoming atmosphere generates happiness and a magnificent financial reward – over £600 raised – the best ever! Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported this event, to everyone who helped and donated, don’t you feel good now? A brilliant week both for our enjoyment and our treasurer! Thank you. Paul Smith Church Warden.
