Never too old to learnwith new Rye courses

WEA, the country’s largest adult learning organisation, is returning to St Mary’s Centre in Lion Street with the students from the Studio School having moved into their new building.

WEA Rye Branch chairman Andy Stuart said: “Learning is for life and the WEA engages specialist tutors to lead its courses, but an emphasis is also placed on sharing the knowledge and experience of fellow learners. Learning should be stimulating and fun and we aim to deliver both.”

The Arab Century starts by looking at the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century and goes through to the recent Arab Spring. The 10 sessions start on Friday 17th Jan from 2pm-4pm at St Mary’s Centre. The tutor will be Paul Legg.

David Derrington returns to Rye with The Hitchhikers Guide to Philosophy.

He says learners should come expecting lively discussions on laughter, work, freedom, ego-boundaries, sex and war and leave with ideas and questions making you feel more alive.

The course is on Tuesdays 10.30am to 12.30pm at St Mary’s Centre and starts 14th January.

A Grand European Musical Tour is a classical music trip around the continent from Spain to the midnight sun of Russia looking at great music and what has influenced it. Kenneth Roberts returns to lead the course which starts on Wednesday 12th February 2pm-4pm. All the courses are 10 two-hour sessions and the cost is £3.95 per hour except The Role of Women in WW1 which is a single four-hour session costs £20 and includes lunch. Concessions available are available for those on income-related benefits.
