New drive–through supermarket in city

Tesco Extra, in Fishbourne Road East, has become Chichester’s first drive-through supermarket, helping customers who can’t wait at home for their shopping to be delivered.

Matt Fielder, store manager, said: “We are very excited to be able to offer this new service to our customers.

“I speak to them every day about their shopping experience and this new drive-through will now offer even more choice in how they buy their shopping.

“Customers who are stretched for time can now buy the same products at the same prices without having to leave their car.”

Shoppers can order their groceries online then choose a two-hour collection slot.

They then drive to the collection point where they need to show staff their reference details and shopping is then packed into the boot by supermarket staff.

Ian Crook, marketing manager for tesco.com said the drive-through should help busy mothers and young professionals save time in their busy schedules.

“It offers a convenient solution to parents who want to avoid the challenge of shopping in a busy store with children in tow,” he said.

Claire Edgerton, who works in East Wittering, is one of the drive-through’s first customers and said she would recommend the service.

“I have used that service a couple of times now,” she said.

“Brilliant service. Shopping all present and correct, and the assistants were polite and helped load into car. Very quick and hassle free.”

Another shopper from Westergate said she found the service particularly useful, especially during the festive period, as it puts a stop to ‘mindless wandering’ around the store.

School children in the Chichester area have been asked to design artwork for a click and collect shopping bag.
