New health centre takes step nearer

Steyning is a step nearer to having a brand new health centre, which would replace existing and now inadequate premises in Tanyard Lane.

Plans, which are due to go before Horsham District Council's development control (south) committee in November, have been heartily endorsed by the parish council's planning committee.

The new health centre plans not only received unanimous support, but parish council chairman Mike Reed has praised them and everyone involved.

He said: "They have come up with a very attractive building which will fit very nicely into the environment and stop people having to travel to Worthing for many treatments."

The existing health centre will be demolished to make way for a purpose-built centre and, during construction work, GP surgeries will be houses temprarily in portable buildings in the health centre car park.

While there was praise for the health centre scheme, there was sharp criticism for a new care home planned to replace Croft Meadow residential home, which is adajacent to the health centre.
