New stops on latest train timetables

SOUTHERN'S new winter timetable came into force on December 12 and the rail operator says a number of improvements have been made to services.

On the East Coastway, in response to passenger requests, services between Brighton and Ashford International will stop alternately every two hours at Three Oaks and Winchelsea on Mondays to Fridays, and Saturdays.

Weekday East Coastway highlights include:

• An additional morning peak service will be introduced from Lewes to Brighton at 07.45 calling at Falmer, Moulsecoomb and London Road (Brighton)

• The 18.47 Victoria to Ore/Littlehampton train will be strengthened from eight coaches to 12 coaches with the eight-coach portion beyond Haywards Heath continuing to Eastbourne

• An additional evening peak service will be introduced from Brighton to Lewes departing at 17.02 and returning from Lewes at 17.55. Both trains will call at London Road (Brighton), Moulsecoomb and Falmer

• The current 10.47, 12.47 and 13.47 Victoria to Ore and 12.58, 13.58 Eastbourne to Victoria trains will stop additionally at Plumpton to create an hourly service at Plumpton throughout the day

• On Saturday the current 12.47, 13.47 and 14.47 Victoria to Ore and 10.58, 12.58, 13.58 and 14.58 Eastbourne to Victoria trains will stop additionally at Plumpton to create an hourly service at Plumpton throughout the day. There is no change to Sunday services.

There are three separate timetables covering Southern’s East Coastway route, which some travellers say is confusing.

However, a spokesperson for Southern said they did away with the “old hefty paper version” claiming passengers didn’t like it as it was “too hefty” and the new versions cut down on paper usage and are therefore greener.
