Ninfield & Hooe Village Voice - June 20

ARTHRITIS Research Campaign:

The talk on Michelham Abbey, given by Helen Poole, of Sussex Archaeological Society, was fascinating. Helen is a good speaker and very enthusiastic about her subject, she had excellent slides too. The talk was very well received, several questions were asked with the answers revealing even more about the subject. Helen was warmly applauded and thanked and invited to join the members for refreshments. 47 was made for ARC. The next fund raising event will be the ARC Summer Lunch on Saturday, July 26. More information nearer the date.

FARMERS' MARKET: On a bright sunny Saturday morning customers made their way to the Memorial Hall for the second Farmers' Market. There were nine stalls offering a selection of goods varying from meat, all kinds, all cuts, cakes, pies and preserves plus vegetables. The plant stall looked inviting for gardeners, offering a variety of healthy plants and the pet food stall proved popular too.

It is hoped local people did not forget the market was on last Saturday but just in case can I ask you to make a note that next month it will be held on Saturday, July 12, the Carnival is on the 19th, the third Saturday in the month. Please make a note in your diary.

Mark and Lesley will hold a food market on June 27 in the Blacksmiths Inn car park starting at 11am and finishing 1pm. Senior citizens are offered a special lunch on that day. Please do make a note of these events being held in the village.

HOOE OPEN GROUP: A test of musical knowledge was the entertainment providedpon Friday and all the ladies present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The compiler was warmly thanked for creating such an interesting challenge.

Next month the members will welcome Stuart Earl whose talk is about the League of Friends of Bexhill Hospital.

Visitors and new members most welcome, please go to Hooe village hall in time for a 2.30pm start.

THE TRAGER APPROACH: As an introduction to Trager you are invited to meet Martin Clout each Saturday in June at Great Park Farmshop and Nursery, north of Catsfield, 10am and 4pm, dry weather permitting. Trager is a new complementary therapy which is deeply relaxing, increases mobility and can help to release the after-effects of traumatic experiences. Comfortable and pleasant to receive, a Trager session gently releases holding patterns that can adversely affect your posture and freedom of movement. Martin works with the Hastings and Rother ME Group which meets at the Pinehurst Centre and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He will also be at the Hastings Summer Fair and Veterans Day in Alexandra Park on Sunday, June 29. Martin can be contacted on 01424 892128 for more information.

METHODIST CHURCH: Friday, June 27, brings the annual Open Air Witness at 7.30pm near the Ridel Gardens. The Hastings Citadel Salvation Army Band plus Songsters will play and sing. It is advisable to take a folding chair, more comfy than the ground. You will be offered refreshments in the Methodist Church Hall at the end of the service.

ST. OSWALD'S CHURCH: Lovely weather, delicious food and good company added up to a very enjoyable Parish Lunch. Sincere thanks to everyone who organised, cooked, served and washed up. I hope it proves to have been financially successful, it certainly deserves to have done so.

GAS MEN COMETH: "No, I'm sure I'm right!" said the wife and mother who was concerned about the smell she had noticed, "It's a gas leak". The family disagreed, "it was something else". She called the gasman out anyway. He did a very thorough check, agreed there was a smell but stated there was no indication on the meter there was a gas leak. Somewhat defensively she told him, "My family think it's the new carpet". "Ah," said the gasman "That could be it, new carpets do smell." Husband and daughters nodded sagely and said..... nothing!
