Artists to show work at fundraising exhibition

There will be a huge variety of new artworks (and cake!) being sold in support of the Alzheimer’s Society and Parkinson’s UK.

Kate said: “I am very excited to be able to showcase the wonderful and diverse work painted by the people who have attended my courses in the last few years.

“ I really enjoy running art classes and I’m extremely lucky to have such enthusiastic students. I meet the loveliest people; they inspire me in my own work as a painter and are a very friendly bunch

“I wanted to congratulate them on all their hard work and put on an exhibition that as well as showing off their work, raises some money for two charities that are close to my heart,” she added.

“My grandfather has Alzheimer’s and my stepfather has Parkinson’s disease, neither of which have a cure, so all the profits and a percentage of the sales will be split between these two charities.”

Kate has taught art classes for a number of years in venues across Sussex. She currently teaches most of her classes at Storrington Village Hall and at the beginning of next year will be starting up additional courses in Chichester at the Swanfield Centre.

“I am very grateful for the support of Storrington Village Hall, which also serves as a great venue for my classes,” said Kate.

In addition to her courses and drop-in classes, she also teaches individuals and small groups from her studio in Eastergate.

Her courses range from ‘Getting Your Brain to Draw Like an Artist’ – a six-week drawing course designed for absolute beginners through to ‘Advanced Portraiture’.

Kate works in all mediums – pastels, acrylics, pen & ink, watercolours and oils so passes on the tips and techniques she has discovered in her own working practice.

“As well as taking commissions and painting people’s portraits, I also love baking cakes,” said Kate, “homemade cake has become so integral to my art classes that some people tell me they’re not coming for the art, just the cake!”

Kate has a number of popular recipes on her website. She will be baking a few for the exhibition and many of the artists will also be bringing their homemade cakes. Slices will be sold with a cuppa to raise money for the two charities and there will be the chance to win some arty raffle prizes, too.

Kate explained: “I am hoping this event will draw loads of people – artists, friends, families and lovers of cake everywhere – so we can enjoy the creative and culinary talents Sussex has to offer and raise money for some well-deserved charities!”

The exhibition runs at Storrington Village Hall, 59 West Street, Storrington, West Sussex, RH20 4DZ from Saturday 28 to Sunday 29 November, 1pm – 4pm and entrance is free.
