Arundel Castle and East Beach café '“ will they be deemed dangerous?

SO, the glorious iron spiders of Arundel are to be removed because someone at the Highways Agency decided they have "visual impact" (Gazette, August 28).

Surely not,

Whatever next?

It is a jolly good job they didn't notice that impressive, great big, eye-catching castle dominating the horizon.

Where do they get these people from?

Probably the same school of observational genius that gave us the ones who did those surveys that said there is ample spare parking near the old market site in Littlehampton and that we didn't need the toilets at Manor House car park.

Incidentally, just how many accidents were there at that roundabout while those wonderful spiders were in place?

Still, it opens a whole new area for public protest, if you can get things removed on the basis of a single complaint to the Highways Agency about distracting visual impact on passing drivers.
