Gammon needs to be off menu

In the 30-odd years I have lived in Littlehampton, I have always subscribed to the Littlehampton Gazette, as I have always found it a very good local newspaper, covering a variety of interesting topics.

However, I wish to ask you one basic, fundamental question – a local newspaper will, hopefully, supply us with news so why, for the last two weeks, have you had photographs of Alan Gammon holding paintings at the museum? One week was enough, but to repeat it was unacceptable.

I am appalled at this week’s (November 29)Gazette. We have a wonderful, beautiful, gregarious, active mayor, Emma Neno. Not only is she an excellent mayor, but she also raises vast sums of money for charity.

Filling half a page of this week’s Gazette is a photograph captioned: “Last year’s Littlehampton mayor presses the plunger to switch on the town’s Christmas lights.” Surely it is very disrespectful for the present mayor that you should be putting in last year’s photograph of last year’s mayor, when in fact Emma has hardly appeared in the Gazette at all and she holds a high public position.

I would very much appreciate your comments regarding the above.

Editor’s note: The photo we used of Mr Gammon two weeks ago was trailing last week’s feature, to let people know it would be appearing in a week’s time.

As he is the chairman of the town council’s community resources committee, with responsibility for the museum, he will, from time to time, appear in stories promoting the museum.

As for the photo previewing the Christmas lights switch-on, it is highly likely that, a year from now, we will use a photo of Mrs Neno at this year’s event a week ahead of the 2013 switch-on.

I’m sure Mrs Neno would be the first to agree she has featured in the paper numerous times since becoming town mayor in May.
