Giving community every opportunity to talk on local issues

I WRITE in response to the recent published letter from David Thomas (Gazette, October 23).

The North Littlehampton Community Forum was set up following the Community Planning Weekend, CPW, last July, which created a new Vision for North Littlehampton.

The forum enables local people to participate in developing the Vision into firm proposals that are sensible, well designed and bring benefits to the existing community. The next forum will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday, November 11, at the Wickbourne Community Centre, Clun Road, Wick, and everyone is welcome.

Arun District Council, ADC, is planning for significant new housing in the coming years '“ revised proposals from central government through the revised South East Plan have increased ADC's housing requirement to 11,300 new homes by 2026.

Planning for new roads, homes (including affordable homes), jobs, and community amenities is complex and requires careful consideration to ensure the most beneficial outcome. It is right that our process considers proposals throughout North Littlehampton in an integrated, holistic way and is not confined to the land to the north of the railway owned by Greencore and other landowners.

I believe the community appreciates the opportunity to talk about local issues and debate the implications of future development proposals. Many key decisions remain to be made and in our experience, the proposals will be enhanced and more appropriate for Littlehampton as a result of community input.

The forums are advertised in the Littlehampton Gazette and publicised by writing to everyone on our growing database, including local groups, and through our newsletter '“ the first of which has been placed in Wick Information Centre, Littlehampton Town Council and Arun District Council and Littlehampton Gazette offices.

Publications can be seen on our website communityplanning.co.uk and we are in the process of establishing a dedicated website to be announced. We have never committed to leafleting door to door since the CPW, but at the last forum we agreed to produce a poster for putting up at key local points.

Anyone who would like to receive information through the post and/or help publicise the forum in their local community should contact me at [email protected] or on 020 7017 1780 and they will be added to our database.

Charles Campion,

John Thompson and Partners
