Healthy start as school and new store team up

With a week of exams ahead, pupils at Billingshurst Primary School are being given an extra boost courtesy of Sainsbury’s.

Working together for the first time, the school and Sainsbury’s are championing the power of a healthy breakfast to pupils, particularly those in Year Six who will be sitting their SATS. The partnership comes ahead of the opening of the Sainsbury’s store on Billingshurst High Street and marks the start of the store’s engagement within the local community.

Ninety Year Six pupils will be provided with a tasty and nutritious breakfast to ensure they perform at their best.

Helen Williamson, head teacher at Billingshurst Primary School said:“In the hectic dash to school it’s easy to overlook breakfast, however ensuring a healthy start to the day can significantly help children’s concentration. By encouraging our children to eat a nutritious meal at the right time of the day, we are hoping to promote good habits for the future. We are delighted to be collaborating with the new team at Sainbury’s and hope it is the first of many projects together.”

Ian Goacher, Sainsbury’s store manager said: “With developments on the new Sainsbury’s store underway, we are looking forward to being an active part of the local community particularly when it comes to promoting the link between healthy eating and performance. We are very proud to support the pupils of Year Six and wish them lots of luck in what we are sure will be a very successful week.”
