It's the way forward

WHY do we need a Bexhill Town Council?

Because of the general level of dissatisfaction over certain flaws in the Next Wave scheme it certainly does look as though the only solution for the future could be the formation of a town council, comprising of only our own local councillors who have to answer to the local consituents and depend on them for votes at the next election.

At the moment Rother, which rules this town, is controlled, and I really mean controlled, by a leader who rules the councillors with a rod of iron. He of course lives in the idyllic faraway constituency of Brede, and owes no allegiance to the voters of Bexhill. Councillors of other parties are too few to be of much influence. Maybe a council of our own would avoid the foisting on us of travesties like De La Warr Heights, the comfortless shelters and the “bin city” littering the beautiful seafront.

However, on a happier note - on Saturday December 3 there will be a Christmas shopping day in the centre of town with entertainment and fun. For the little ones there will be a Santa’s Grotto at the toy shop at 47 St Leonards Road. Santa will be there attended by the Ugly Sisters to welcome you. Come and have a nose round the wonderful shops we have here in town. Bexhill has a lot to offer.

This is Bexhill traders taking a hand in regenerating the town, not waiting for Rother to do it. The council has been debating the “regeneration” for years and yet little seems to come of it. Every year a new core strategy plan comes out and yet nothing seems to be done. nothing changes. Look at the disgusting toilets for instance. Let’s hope a council of our very own can turn this little town into a bright and sparkling little showpiece.
