LETTER: Strong resolve

Paul Dendle’s remarks regarding Dr James Walsh in the Littlehampton Gazette last month (June 11) caused great offence to many members of the community.

I would like to remind councillor Dendle that Dr James Walsh has served his country in the Royal Navy, has served the community as an outstanding GP well into his retirement age and has helped build up one of the finest GP surgeries in West Sussex.

Also, as his part time interests are politics he has helped encourage the residents of Littlehampton to state their voice and hopefully have some say in the future of Littlehampton.

Mr Dendle should bear in mind that he is a senior councillor and such behaviour is totally unacceptable.

We all have grave concern that he is in the position that he is and has so much authority regarding the future of Littlehampton, which we are trying so very hard to preserve.

There is no way that he can justify the exorbitant amount of money that is spent on consultants, and it is undeniable that 70 per cent of the people who voted are in favour of retaining our seafront and the Littlehampton swimming pool on the site where it now stands.

Please, Mr Dendle, concentrate on the Arundel and Walberton areas for which you stand and leave Littlehampton to the people who love and cherish it, so it does not become seen to be something for financial investment and ruination of the environment.

However, can we rid ourselves of this bombastic tyranny with a senior councillor who tells us that it is not up to the people of Littlehampton to decide what they want, but it is up to Arun District Council?

None of the councillors live in Littlehampton anyway.

Thank you Mr Dendle, it makes us more determined than ever in our resolve.
