Not suitable for large lorries

I have just wasted half an hour of my life in Dumb Woman’s Lane going towards Winchelsea.

There was one car in front of me and we were nearing the corner where passing is easy, just past the cottage on the bend.

A large Bedford-type van approached us and made no effort to reverse back.

The driver of the car in front of me got out and suggested that the van should reverse back approximately 50 yards.

The driver refused and then a very large courier size van came up behind him.

Both vans refused to move saying that this was not a private road and that they had every right to use it.

I thought of sitting in the road and smoking a cigarette but I don’t smoke so when the car in front of me started to reverse I had no option but to follow suit.

The road is not suitable for reversing as it bends and curves.

Another car had driven up behind me and started to reverse.

The driver was an elderly gentleman who had probably passed his test 60 years ago and he couldn’t seem to get the hang of how to reverse in bends.

Through your admirable paper I am hoping that the council might see fit to place a notice saying ‘ Unsuitable for Large vehicles’ at both ends of the lane which would avoid ignorant and stupid drivers attempting to use the lane.
