Shops as a hobby

Having been regular visitors to Arundel many years ago, last Tuesday we returned to visit a specific shop.

Not only was that particular shop shut but so were many others with no visible clue as to opening days and times. Add to that the fact that the castle car park does not recognise the Blue Badge Scheme and that the toilets cost 20p and it would appear that the town does not want visitors.

Arundel seems to wish to be an enclave for people who can afford to play at shopkeeping as a hobby. It appears not to welcome visitors, nor the people who need the town to thrive to make a livelihood or to employ the next generation.

We should add that Arundel Trophies is a notable exception, in that they were not only open but also concerned for the future of their town.
