Shops well-stocked

I REFER to Simon Faber’s letter (Gazette, June 7), in reply to mine the previous week concerning exhibits of fish pictured in newspapers.

I am aware of all Mr Faber says concerning pain, suffering and death that occurs every day in the food chain, of which man is at the top!

Mr Faber shows quite a lot of vitriol when replying to my letter, and I feel compelled to answer him. On the subject of eating vegetables (and I eat more than most), our supermarkets are well-stocked with a great variety of vegetarian foods today and most of these are very tasty. I challenge Mr Faber to sample some of these foods, and he might be pleasantly surprised.

As Mr Faber is a fishmonger and so makes his living by selling fish, I sympathise with him when emotions are stirred on seeing letters such as mine published in a newspaper, and I am sure he will go on selling fish.

But I, too, must be allowed to express my views on these subjects, however abhorrent they may be to Mr Faber, and I am sure he and I can go on expressing our views, however much these may be opposed by each other.
