After a public vote, Serv Sussex has been chosen as the successful charity.

Serv Sussex offers a free service delivering potentially life-saving blood, blood products and human milk to Sussex hospitals. The charity, which is made up entirely of volunteers, works from 7pm-6am 365 days a year.

It may surprise many that, although the NSBT provides a daily delivery service to hospitals, it has no free way of transporting blood around the country out of hours.

Therefore Serv Sussex avoids the need for the NHS spending funding and resources on taxis, couriers or ambulances to deliver blood to Sussex hospitals.

The support from Station Garage means that this incredible organisation can continue to do its vital work and enable hospitals to focus their resources on patient care and eliminate costly transport bills.

Simon Morley, co-ordinator for Serv Sussex commented:“We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to be Station Garage’s Charity of the Year, we would like to thank everyone for voting as this would not have been possible without the public vote.”

James Thorpe, dealer principal at Station Garage, commented: “We are delighted to announce that Serv Sussex is our Charity of the year. It is important to us to support local organisations and community causes and we cannot wait to start fundraising to help this essential charity.

“We would like to thank the public for voting and helping us to choose our winner and wish the other charities shortlisted all the best with their fundraising, they were all such worthy causes.”
