Thoughts as we approach Armistice Day

Heroes Remembered on a Frosty Morn

Today we remember the men who fell,

Stories of war they were never to tell;

Leaving their homes on a bright winter's morn,

Marching through streets the bunting adorns,

Eager to fight, to bring peace to the nation.

Alone in the trenches, kisses long past,

He lights a match to see friends breathe their last.

The darkness returns to the smoke-filled night,

That fills a body too weary to fight.

Another day breaks and the soldier embraces

His trudge through the mud to kill more soulless faces.

The battlefield falls silent, his death in a foreign land,

As he travels towards Heaven, an angel takes his hand.

Her face is warm and welcoming, beneath her halo rest '”

Come with me, young soldier, and I will give you rest.
