What a great idea, tiddely- om-pom-pom!

I WOULD like to endorse the sentiments so eloquently expressed by Maurice Ozanne (Gazette, August 21) about a permanent bandstand being considered for Littlehampton seafront.

It doesn't seem so long ago that every self-respecting seaside town sported its own bandstand, some of which are iconic works of art, besides being a focal point for residents and visitors to enjoy a little light music on a Sunday afternoon.

With 2012 looming and all things British soon being in the general spotlight, what better way to spend some money on something enduring, attractive and worthwhile?

There might even be a little left over for a bench. . .

In the words of the song: "Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside. . . I do like to stroll upon the prom, prom, prom, where the brass bands play, tiddely-om-pom-pom."
