Simon, who works from a studio in the South Downs, installed the sculptures over the last few weeks in preparation.

The animals are crafted from sustainably sourced wood and the sculptures will form part of a nature trail for children.

Councillor Sue Wallsgrove, Chair of the Environment Committee at Arun District Council, said: “These sculptures are fantastic.

“They really need to be seen close up to appreciate the skill that has gone into crafting them. The project to improve the Sunken Gardens has spanned several administrations so we’re delighted to see how well-received it’s been, and these sculptures really bring it to life.

Chainsaw artist, Simon Groves, said: “Being involved with this project has been hugely rewarding and I was pleased to receive some lovely comments from passers-by as I worked.”

The project, delivered by Blakedown Landscapes, includes a revamped play area, offering an inclusive roundabout, in-ground trampoline and a basket swing.
