The tours will explore the cuisine of Tamil Nadu and Chettinad. These expeditions are built on her 30 years experience of working, researching and travelling in the subcontinent.

Ali Warner said: “I’ve been running photography tours across India to capture the amazing light, and if I’m honest, to escape the English winters. My brothers and sister were all born in India, and I grew up in Kenya with parties and events that Punjabi friends invited us to. I can remember eating my first eye-watering green chilli aged ten, and the generosity of the tables full of samosas and chaat and lime sodas. I’ve been eating and cooking Indian food all my life. Clients and friends have been working on me to put culinary tours on my itineraries, so you could say it’s a natural development of my interests.

“I did my PhD in South India, and distinctly remember eating an amazing coconut chutney in a thali that was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before. This was Chettinad cuisine, and I didn’t know it.”

The 2023 tours that Ali has devised offer cooking demonstrations and the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and don aprons. You’ll be visiting markets to buy spices, bazaars for cooking hardware, village farmers in Chettinad to follow the passage of food from farm to plate. Learn how to temper spices and make the delicious Chettinad chicken. Should you wish to work on your photographic skills, this will be supported by Ali who has taught photography workshops the length and breadth of India.

“I’ve been thinking about how to create something that is both a practical and physical reminder of these extraordinary trips. Once you’re home, I will make you a beautiful, photographic cookbook of our trip for your coffee table.so you can whip up delicious plates for your friends, and remind yourself of how beautiful South India is,” she said.
